A day with the Kuchi
We were taking a break along the road between Kabul and Kandahar when a Kuchi girl came up to us watching Ger cooking. After a while I took a polaroid photo and gave it to her. She hardly looked at it and kept it in her hand while following Ger's cooking activities. I pointed out that the pattern on the cloths of the girl in the photo were the same as her own. She stared for a few minutes at the photo and suddenly it dawned on her she was looking at an image of her self….. she stood up and ran back to the tent of her family, in her hand our invitation for a day with her father and his several wives, many children and even more cattle.
The Kuchi are the nomadic people of Afghanistan making up some 10 % of the population. Most of them are Pashtun. The women have typical facial tattoos and their dresses are very colorful (when new).
